Confidence & Self-esteem

Are you occasionally beset by moments of self-doubt, unease, or a lingering sense of low confidence? Have these feelings impacted your daily life in some way?
If you're looking for support, counselling might be a gentle guide on your journey.

I'm here to help you, offering insights and tools to help you regain your footing and ease the burden of self-doubt, allowing your self-esteem and confidence to naturally grow.

Are you suffering from a lack of confidence or low self-esteem?

In the ever-changing landscape of our confidence journey, the formidable role of counselling emerges as a beacon of strength. Whether we've savoured the invigorating rush of newfound self-assurance or witnessed our self-esteem flourish like a resilient oak tree, one undeniable truth remains: self-assuredness is an indispensable cornerstone of our personal odyssey.

During those times when our self-confidence wellspring runs dry, leaving us yearning for self-assurance, counselling stands tall as a robust ally capable of replenishing our self-worth. The absence of self-confidence often invites unwelcome companions – self-doubt, hesitancy, and an unwarranted reluctance to seize life's opportunities or express our authentic selves. This internal battle doesn't merely stay confined to our inner world; it casts a formidable shadow over our relationships, work, and overall life satisfaction.

The empowering reality is that, much like tending to a thriving garden, counselling offers a tried-and-true path to nurturing our self-confidence and self-esteem back to their full vigour. Through expert guidance and effective therapeutic strategies, it empowers us to confront and conquer the insecurities that have attempted to hold us hostage.

This transformative journey not only fortifies personal resilience but also radiates its influence outward, reinvigorating relationships, revitalising career prospects, and rekindling a profound sense of fulfillment. In essence, counselling is the steadfast sentinel of your inner confidence, ready to help your resolute self thrive once more with steadfast care and unwavering determination. If you feel this way, counselling may be able to help.

What causes low confidence and low self-esteem and where does it come from?

The sources of fluctuating confidence and self-esteem are diverse, influenced by a multitude of factors. These may include past experiences that have left a mark, such as instances of bullying or childhood adversity. Additionally, habits like substance misuse can cast shadows on self-esteem. Long-term health conditions, genetics, and your current life circumstances can all play pivotal roles.  Experiencing low self-esteem and a lack of confidence in moderation is a common part of the human experience, and it can even serve as a motivator at times.

Moments that might seem daunting, such as facing a challenging task or expressing your feelings to someone you care about, often lead to personal growth and fulfillment. However, these feelings of inadequacy can become problematic when they start hindering your ability to navigate everyday life. For instance, your self-doubt may intensify to the point where even the mere thought of discussing your dissatisfaction with your boss at work triggers overwhelming anxiety that persists over an extended period.

You might also find that your self-criticisms are disproportionately harsh, convincing you that voicing your concerns will inevitably result in losing your job. Another common consequence of low self-esteem and a lack of confidence is avoidance—steering clear of situations that might trigger feelings of unease. You might choose to decline invitations from friends on the weekend because you fear your partner's disapproval. Additionally, panic attacks can manifest as a distressing aspect of grappling with these deep-seated insecurities.

In the absence of support, low self-esteem and a lack of confidence can give rise to additional mental health challenges, including depression, substance abuse, and an elevated risk of suicide..
