Depression Counselling for Men in Cornwall

Empowering Men in Cornwall: Evidence-Based Depression Counselling to Transform Anxiety into Confidence.

How can I help?

Depression can make you feel completely drained of energy, hollow, or trapped in a low mood that just won't shift. It strips away the pleasure from things you used to enjoy, disrupts your sleep, and can make even small daily tasks feel impossibly heavy.

I work with depression by providing a confidential, safe space where you can speak openly without being told to just 'snap out of it'. We will carefully look at the root causes of your depression, uncovering heavy feelings like shame, guilt, and sadness, and map out a practical way forward.

Understanding Depression:

This is a Much like anxiety, the causes of depression vary but are often a result of a combination of three factors: upsetting recent events, personal factors, and longer-term difficulties. Factors such as long-term unemployment, being in an abusive or loveless relationship, and continuing work stress can lead to depression.

Depression, however, is likely to be triggered by many of the causes of anxiety, such as bullying or childhood abuse, drink and/or drug misuse, stress at work, money worries, and perhaps most commonly, difficulties at home.

Along with short-term troubles such as work stress or longer-term problems like a difficult relationship at home, "personal factors" such as family history, your personality, serious medical illness, and substance use can make us more susceptible to depression.

For example, someone who has been made redundant and is struggling to find a job may feel quite down about being unemployed. They may find that despite being unemployed, they are optimistic about the future. Depression may occur if the person's difficulties with finding a job are ongoing and other things "happen" to them, such as splitting up with their partner because they argue over money. The stress from arguing exacerbates the person's situation, and they could spiral into depression. Font
